Spiritual Jazz 16 is a focus on Riverside and its associated sister labels. Riverside itself was founded in 1953 by Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer, and became an important purveyor in that decade and beyond of what would be marketed as of modern jazz. Edwin Starr was a Northern Soul hero, noted for his Ric Tic and Gordy/Tamla Motown recordings in the mid to late 60s. He is best known for his international chart topper 'War' a Vietnam War protest song from 1970. Multi instrumentalist Don Glori (Gordon Li) hails from Melbourne Australia but is now based in London. His second album 'Don't Forget To Have Fun' released on the Deep Matter label is a great follow up to his excellent debut 'Welcome' and recorded with some of Melbourne's finest Jazz musicians.
