I saw UNIVERSAL SOLDIER back in the day, and I liked it. I was a fan of Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. The concept was decent and the action was working. But after the 92′ original, the sequel UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: THE RETURN (1999) just didn’t do it for me. And I didn’t even watch the third film – UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION (2009).
But now we have a 4th film coming out, and I can say that the trailer looks promising. More than promising, they look like they re-invented the entire landscape of the franchise. UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING brings back Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, with new genetically enhanced soldier Scott Adkins (Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, The Bourne Ultimatum). It looks like it’s on some crazy, mind control super-action sci-fi drama stuff. The art department does need to work on their poster skills though. Don’t worry about Lundgren’s plug at the beginning, just wait for the action. And don’t get an epileptic attack while watching…
And can you believe Roy Jones Jr. is in it too? I don’t know in what capacity, but these actors look like they all could take you in the ring! John Hyams directs.
UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING comes out November 30th 2012. I don’t know, I may have to call the crew and catch this one when it comes out. Tell me what you think.
