Trailer Jive: THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS

YES!!  The RZA has been coming closer and closer to what has probably been his Kung Fu Cinema dream, and now here it is – THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS.

The member of the Wu Tang Clan has been neck deep in all kinds of martial art cinema, either in front of the camera, or behind the music.  But not the usual karate flicks.  Films like Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Afro Samurai and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 are more along his unique tastes.  So it’s not surprising that when he finally writes, acts and directs a kung fu film, it would be a cool and fantastic salute to the style that Shaw Brothers made so famous.

The story is about a blacksmith (The RZA) that has to create weapons endowed with mystic energy to be used to defeat an enemy that’s endangering his adopted Jungle Village.  These weapons are The Iron Fists.  Check out the Red Band trailer (meaning not for kids), but don’t look if you don’t like flying eyeballs.

Quentin Tarantino tacked his name on this magical martial mayhem because he obviously respects The RZA and Eli Roth and loves classic Asian Kung-Fu films just as much as they do.

Now I understand why those guys are into this film, and I can see why Lucy Liu is playing Madame Blossom.  I mean, she was O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill.   But I want to know what attracted Russell Crowe to the movie.  I didn’t realize he had that Shaolin vibe going on.  Jamie Chung also stars in the flick.

I even like the over-the-top poster they have.  Hopefully we get to catch this Kung-Fu extravaganza this Fall.  You can check out the website HERE.

This brings me back to my Five Deadly Venom days. I hope RZA and the rest start a whole new era of classic fantasy kung-fu films.
