Trailer Jive: THE CLOUD ATLAS

Being that this trailer only has a little over 150,000 views so far, I’m assuming that not all of you have seen it (that’s from the official Warnerbros. channel).  This is a film that’s slipped under my radar until recently also.  I fault myself because one director that has intrigued me over that years and I should be up on all of his projects – Tom Tykwer.  The Wachowski(s) (can’t call them brothers anymore) teamed up with to make this film, and that can only mean good things.  Tykwer was the director behind the hit german cult classic RUN LOLA RUN, but it was his PERFUME: DIARY OF A MURDERER that was a masterpiece in adult fable storytelling.  That you should check out.

The Wachowski ‘siblings’ need no introduction.  They were the masterminds behind THE MATRIX TRILOGY and SPEEDRACER.  I know some of you out there would agree with me that the Wachowski(s) are a ‘hit and miss’ pair.  But you can’t count out the fact that they are pretty deep and original in their concepts.  At least they seem to love the same things all geeks love; anime, comics, cool films, superheroes etc.

I don’t know how good of a film THE CLOUD ATLAS will be, but if Tom Tykwer and Andy and Lena Wachowski directed it together, this film should be amazing in its scope and breath.  Throw in some acting heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Hally Berry, Hugo Weaving, Keith David and Susan Sarandon, and then tell a parallel story dealing with different time periods including a sci-fi future, and you should have something truly wonderful.  I only hope the Wachowski pair don’t do a Matrix Revolution, and Tykwer can be great on the visuals, but leave you wanting a little more explanation as to what’s going on in the story.  But enough of all that.  Check out the trailer and make your own conclusions.

Here are the directors pitching the film to you first hand in this slightly annoying video.

THE CLOUD ATLAS is In theaters October 26th.
