Trailer Jive: ROBOCOP – OMNICORP PRODUCT LINE (Viral Video)

Looks like MGM and Strike Entertainment are starting their advertising campaign early with the viral video strategy that’s been popular with the film industry lately.  If they can match what Twentieth Century Fox did for PROMETHEUS, we should be in for some cool advertising leading up to the ROBOCOP remake.  In this ‘OmniCorp Product Line Promotion’ we get a first look at RoboCop’s mechanical arch nemesis – the ED-209.

Hollywood has been going remake and reboot crazy.  I want to make that a main topic of my live podcast show Geek Soul Brother Live.  At least it has been forever since the first RoboCop.  I’m sure just about everybody that’s reading this has seen the original 1987 version, but let’s just make sure we are all caught up.

RoboCop is about a police officer, Murphy, that technically died from a run in with a gang, but was revived.  OmniCorp, uses him for their RoboCop experiment, turning Murphy into a law enforcing cyborg.  But when Murphy tries to bring OmniCorp executive Dick Jones in for murder, things end up going bad.  Murphy’s only friend is officer Lewis, his partner before his cyborg transformation.

Maybe the remake will be a something that the younger generation can enjoy.  I’m sure it’s going to look much different from the pre-computer graphics era original.  I wonder if they are going to go for the cynical look at what the future may hold, with death dealing gameshows and 5000 level suntan lotion?  I don’t know if that angle would work today, but either way, I’m interested in the remake. I mean, Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman are in it.  And it stars Joel Kinnaman as RoboCop himself.

This is where you can visit the ficticious OMNICORP WEBSITE, but there isn’t much up there besides the video yet.

ROBOCOP is coming out next summer on August 9th.
