I’m not sure if this was a good idea or not. It definitely looks like they got the ‘grossness’ right. This REDBAND trailer shows some intense horror shots. But what about that weird, slightly comical-esque quality of the original Sam Raimi film starring Bruce Campbell as our evil dead killer Ash Williams? Is it going to capture that unique bend on horror that make the first one so crazy and likable? Or is it going to be just another horror remake that doesn’t add anything to the particular myth? Personally, I’m not getting anything unique about the film from the trailer at all, so for now, I’m thinking it’s the latter. But there is plenty of time to see more footage. I’ll hold a hard judgement for now. This is RedBand because of some cursing and extra bloody scenes. Other than that, it’s your typical ‘make you wince’ horror trailer.
EVIL DEAD 2013 stars Subpugatory’s Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore. Sam Raimi did help write the new screenplay, but director Fede Alvarez seems a bit green from the looks of his imdb. I haven’t seen his work, but if Raimi gave him the okay, then more power to the brother.
If you haven’t done so already, check out the original 1981 classic, and it’s two sequels, EVIL DEAD TWO, and ARMY OF DARKNESS, which was much more silly but still worked.
EVIL DEAD comes out April 12th, 2013.
