I caught this trailer a while ago, but I figured I should post it up since it comes out this month.
Basically, the story is about a group of young tourists that take a guided tour through the abandoned city of Chernobyl. which suffered a nuclear accident 25 years ago. I guess kids aren’t afraid of a little radiation poisoning these days. Unfortunately, glowing in the dark is the least of the party’s concerns, as it becomes increasingly more evident that the city isn’t as abandoned as they thought.
This comes from the imaginative shaky-cam prince of found-footage Oren Peli who wrote and helped produce the film. You know, the guy that gave us Paranormal Activity.
It’s directed by what seems to be a first time director Bradley Parker. He does have experience with visual effects from working on things like Fight Club, xXx and Let Me In (according to imdb). I’m not too sure about Peli’s co-writers though - Shane Van Dyke and Carey Van Dyke. I mean, you can’t get too much credit for penning TV Movies like The Day the Earth Stopped and Transmorphers: Fall of Man.
This will probably be on the same level as most of the found-footage films. it doesn’t seem to be much room for a descent story twist, but a geek can hope, right?
Chernobyl Diaries comes out the 25th of May.
