Tom Hanks’ Sci-Fi Animated Drama – ELECTRIC CITY

The only way I can sum up this Yahoo web series is … Tom Hanks has found his Inner Tarantino!

Now if that’s not enough to grab your attention, then keep reading and I’ll break down why this animated series might be worth watching.

“It’s best to ask no questions, and be told no lies, here in ELECTRIC CITY.”

In this dystopian future of dwindling electrical recourses, Tom Hanks plays Cleveland Carr, a Grid Operative.  He carries out orders from his elderly boss, Ruth Orwell.  She’s part of the Secret Knitting Society, a group old women that keep tabs on what’s going on in Electric City.  When there is a problem that Orwell thinks should be taken care of, she sends in Carr… and the solution usually ends with lethal results.  Throw in the public’s unlawful entertainment of ‘Tap-Coding’, and a growing underground resistance, and you’ve got a decent animated Scifi drama.

Tom Hanks is the writer/creator of Electric City, in conjunction with Yahoo Screen.  It’s a story that’s presented in 5 to 7 minute ‘webisodes’ that string together to tell a larger story.  It reminds me not only of Tarantino, but also Rodriguez’s Sin City.  But the style of animation comes closer to that of Archer.  Hanks fleshed out a world full of interesting characters.  He asks the question of who has power in a society of limited power?  The series also stars Jeanne Tripplehorn and Holland Taylor.  Here is the first episode “Truth-or-Consequences”.  Let me know what you guys thought about it.  If you watch it on the Yahoo Website, you get a more enhanced experience.
