If there was ever a place that could spawn a superhero from Toxic waste I guess Jersey would be it. I should know. Actually, my home state isn’t that bad at all. But as far as movies go, this is one of the worst and best cult classic of the 80s you will ever be shocked by, I mean schlocked by.
Melvin Junko (Mark Torgl) is a bit of a loser guy that’s picked on by his peers in the town of Tromaville. But when he falls into a vat of toxic waste he’s transformed into the huge and monstrous TOXIC AVENGER. He may be hideous, but his heart is in the right place (unlike his eye). The Toxic Avenger goes around town and commences to mop up the criminals (literally).
Troma productions are known for there sex-comedy romps, so this isn’t one of my more family suggested classics. If you’ve never seen THE TOXIC AVENGER, you can get an idea of what it’s like from this almost ‘R’ rated trailer (NSFW for language and some PG-13 Boot-knocking)
The film starred Mitch Cohen as the actual Toxic Avenger. It was directed by Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman with the screenplay by Joe Ritter.
You can also catch the sequels two, three and four if you have something like Netflix.
Oh, and just to let you fans know, there maybe a remake in the works. Again I say “Is nothing remake sacred?”
I know most of you 80s kids watched this movie (probably while hoping nobody was around). But I think some of you younger geeks might have missed this very trashy cult classic. Let Geek Soul Brother know what you thought of THE TOXIC AVENGER.
