Ten Couples in Sci-Fi for Valentine’s Day

Romance can be a tumultuous journey of the heart.  But imagine if it forms in the confines of a spaceship, or on an alien planet, or amidst battling super-villains.  But love can conquer all, and cross space, time and species.  Here is a list of Ten Couples that proved that you can’t fight the feeling when you’ve met your true love.

Worf and Jadzia-Dax – Worf found a soul mate in Jadzia-Dax.  She was beautiful, and had an old sentient slug in her belly.  Jadzia-Dax knew a whole lot about Klingon culture, so really Worf never had a chance.

Data and Tasha Yar – Tasha was a bit guarded.  But a tin-man without a heart ended up melting hers.  Even though their romance started in an uninhibited night of passion, their relationship grew.  But it came to a tragic end with Tasha untimely death.

Solo and Leia – From the moment they met, emotions flared and laser blasters sparked.  But as their fight for freedom from the Empire raged, so did their love grow.  And thankfully so, because nobody wanted to see The Force dip into incest with Luke and Leia.

Apollo and Starbuck – Even in space, love travels the rocky roads.  Starbuck was the hotshot viper pilot and Apollo the level-headed leader.  But even though they mistakenly married other people, Starbuck and Apollo’s passions for each other endured.

Spock and Uhura
– in the Star Trek re-imagine, Spock and Uhura fan the flames of a hidden romance.  Looks like Spock was a vulcan apple that didn’t fall far from the tree, as he falls in love with a human just as his father did with his mother before him.

Cmd. William Adama and President Laura Roslin – Again, the remade, re-imagined Battlestar Galactica showed us that love can sprout in the cold darkness of space.  This senior love story showed scifi fans that even the person you think is against you can become your best friend and lover.

Olivia/Fauxlivia and Peter – who else can say that they got the same woman from two universes to fall in love with him.  Though Peter thought he was loving the same girl all along, that didn’t change the fact that Fauxlivia’s spy mission turned personal.

Odo and Kira – Deep Space Nine created a few memorable romances.  One of the oddest (they all were odd) was the love that bloomed between a lonely shape-shifter and a major from a ruff-n-tuff planet.  But how could Kira not love a man who could make love in plasma gas form.  Now that’s some Space Kama-Sutra right there.

John Crichton and Aeryn Sun – She should have hated John for getting her kicked out of her Peace-Keeper job, and getting a price on her head to boot.  But Aeryn Sun couldn’t deny that this dumb earthling held a special place in her heart.  John and Aeryn’s love manifested in the birth of their child D’Argo.

The Thing and Alicia Masters – Ben Grimm tried to play that wounded monster card, but this blind sculptor wasn’t falling for it.  My hat goes off to The Thing because Kerry Washington is a knockout.

There are many other couples in science fiction that deserve some love credit.  Tell Geek Soul brother which ones you think were great romances.  Hope you all have a truly geek Valentine’s Day with your favorite geek soul-mate.

This is why you are going to be the Go-To Guy for next year. I think the theme will be Tragic Love Stories in the Geek Universe.
