It’s not just a new show coming to Syfy, DEFIANCE is a new type of program that meshes the world of television with the world of gaming. Basically, the story will coincide between the game and show. Characters will be taken off the show and moved to the game, and game characters will leave the game and become new characters on TV. There have been many games developed that were based on a TV show, but I don’t think there has been a TV / Game relationship like this where the two elements are developing side by side.
Jeb Nolan is the Chief Lawkeeper of what used to be St. Louis, but has now been renamed Defiance. It’s 30 years in the future, after a war with a group of multi-racial aliens has ceased and they now live among the humans. The earth itself has been drastically changed by the conflict and life is difficult for all. The trailer doesn’t tell you much, but you do get a sense of how serious the production is about making this world look real.
Grant Bowler (Killer Elite, True Blood) plays the lawkeeper Nolan. The cast looks decent, and the aliens are interesting. It reminds me of BABYLON 5 in many ways, but much more gritty. The producers seem excited, and I along with them. Look for DEFIANCE Spring of 2013.

Wow– thanks for the trailer! This was the show I had posted a question about because I couldn’t remember the title. It looks really cool– love the aliens– they remind me of Nuala/Nuada from HB2…very interesting. Spring is a long way off…but having this to look forward to just might get me through the long, long winter in Chitown.

I had a feeling this was the show you were talking about. When I saw the aliens with white hair I thought of your question and said “oh, okay, yeah the Targaryens.” I totally agree, this looks like it will be a good show. Hang in there, waiting for Spring won’t be forever.
