Syfy Channel 2015 Slate Brings Us Deeper Into Space!

The Expanse Naomi

I have to hand it to Dave Howe, president of Syfy.  He and the movers and shakers over at the network are making seriously invested decisions to bring the Sci-Fi back to Syfy.  They have already given us Angels fighting humans, multiple aliens living among humans, humans living in a spaceship, and dead humans eating living ones (as only Asylum could).  But for 2015 the channel is sending us deeper into space. mythology, the supernatural, and time-travel.

We’ve already started off the year with their newest show – 12 Monkeys. It’s based on a previous film that all the cool nerds should watch.  But even before the new year begin we were presented in December of 2014 with the 3 episode mini-series called Ascension. It received mixed reviews, but I personally loved the fact that Syfy gave us a cool concept if not a well told story.  And of course we are getting season 2 of Helix.  It’s feeling a little bit like LOST, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Again, the network looks like it’s willing to take a chance on trying to present original hard science fiction to an audience that has been starving for this kind of television for years.

What’s up for the rest of 2015?  Well, we have this trailer for Syfy’s THE EXPANSE –

Looks pretty cool. I’m loving the talent that we see in the trailer – the wonderful Shohreh Aghdashloo and Jonathan Banks from BREAKING BAD.  It looks like it has some potential. Hopefully it will hit audiences in a better way than some of Syfy’s previous shows. Still, I can’t knock their game for at least trying.  New programs just don’t grow on trees.

We also have CHILDHOOD’S END, which will be a six part story based on Arthur C. Clarke’s book of the same name.  That’s not all.  Syfy is keeping us in space with a fun sounding project called KILLJOYS – a show about a group of space bounty hunters.  And what about this other show called DARK MATTERS?  A crew of a spaceship wakes up with no memories of who they are or where they are going?  Yes please.

Other interesting sounding shows in the imagination network’s slate are – OLYMPUS and HUNTERS (2016 Actually).  Plus, we get all of the previously aired shows that may or may not have tickled your fancy – CONTINUUM, DEFIANCE, DOMINION, GHOST HUNTERS, HAVEN, LOST GIRL, BITTEN, Z-NATION and all the shows that are probably airing now. Syfy really seems to be loving magicians as of late also..

Is their any program that you think will be worth watch?  I feel like it’s all worth a try.  My 4 episode rule will be in full effect this year.  We are living in the glory days of science fiction and fantasy on the small screen.  Just go to syfy.com if you want to see all that they have to offer.
