Scream-A-Day No. 29 – SILENT HILL

This supernatural horror was based on a video game by the same name.  But watching it with my daughter and son a few years ago was no game at all.  I had a feeling that this movie was going to be a chiller, but I had no idea.  I’ve mentioned before that I’m no gamer, so I wasn’t familiar with how scary the game was. I have a pretty good idea now that I should really think twice about playing – SILENT HILL.

Rosa da Silva is traveling with her daughter – Sharon, when they have a car accident.  Rosa (Radha Mitchell) is knocked out.  When she awakes, Sharon (Jodelle Ferland)  is gone.  Also, there seems to be a town right in front of where her car stopped.  A foggy, snowy (or is that ash?) town that looks as dead as a dried out corpse.  Rosa, played by Radha Mitchell, sets out to find her daughter. But as soon as she takes a step, a man-thing-guy comes limping up to her with a huge hole in his chest.  Terrified she doesn’t move, which is a bad idea because chest-hole-guy decides to shoot some bloody acid out his sternum cavity.  Luckily, Rosa’s mamma didn’t raise no dummies, and she narrowly escapes.  She also gets help from police officer Cybil Bennett played by Laurie Holden.  From there it’s all ‘Down’ Silent Hill (I had to).

Now this here.. was a scary movie.  I think not knowing what the game was about left me open to all the chills that the producers had to offer.  And I’m not going to ruin the Ending for those that haven’t seen it, or played the game, but it-is-messed-up!  It’s not the perfect horror movie, being that it IS based on a game, which confines it to certain dynamics. But SILENT HILL is Definitely one of the best game based productions I’ve seen.  Geek Soul Brother warns you not to let the little ones watch, unless you want them to have a PANIC ATTACK if they ever hear an AIR RAID horn.   Let me know what you think.

I played about ten minutes of the first “Silent Hill” game and came very close to shitting myself, so I can imagine what a big screen adaptation would be like…

Yeah, this movie was no joke. My kids had trouble sleeping that night. There is one horrific scene that totally catches you off guard.
