Scream-A-Day No.3 – RE-ANIMATOR (1985)

What do you call a guy that can re-animate the dead?  Why, The RE-ANIMATOR of course.  And that’s exactly what we will call Herbert West in this Scream-A-Day No.3.

Jeffrey Combs plays the very odd, but very smart Herbert West, a scientist that’s working on a formula that can revive the brain in dead people.  But the problem is, after you re-animate them what do you do with them?  It is our horrific bliss to see just how Herbert, with the help of his friend Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) addresses that particular problem.

The trailer doesn’t convey the gory fun that this film exuded back in the day.  But gore seems to be Lovecraft’s middle name.  It was based on one of his stories.  What’s interesting about this cult classic horror is that, although Herbert is the ‘Mad Scientist’ in the film, he’s not a villain.  Well, he’s not the top villain.  His was purely for scientific research, but Dr. Hill (David Gale) was the selfish, greedy (and purvey) head honcho that was willing to steal Herbert’s dead raising formula by any means.  Who could forget the creeped out, undead sexual molestation move he tried to put on Dan’s girlfriend Megan (Barbara Crampton).

Beware, there are undead muscley buttocks running around in the trailer.  This isn’t for the kiddies of course.

This crowning achievement in crazy 80s horror was directed by Stewart Gordon and written Gordon, Dennis Paoli, and William Norris.

If you haven’t seen this one, catch it if you can.  It will leave a dent in your horror movie memory for good.  And check out the sequels if you’re inclined, but they weren’t as good as the original.
