Scream-A-Day No.14 – TRILOGY OF TERROR (1975)

Oh Yeah!  Now we’re going back to my day.  In the seventies, many ‘TV Movies’ came on at night.  They covered different genre, but I distinctly remember several horror based small screen one shots.  They were all pretty creepy – THE SENTINEL and DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK were two, but the one that we old folks remember as kids was TRILOGY OF TERROR.  Just go to anyone my age and say “aye, yayeyayeye”, with your hand waving like you have a spear, and they will instantly know what you’re talking about.  That’s if they stayed up late at night, trying to scare themselves to death.

It wasn’t even that all three stories were scary, just the one in particular.  A woman (Karen Black) gets a gift for her gentleman friend; an African Statue.  It’s pretty scary looking from the get-go.  She reads a note attached to it that basically says “Don’t remove this charm from the statue”  Yeah, good luck with that.  The charm comes off and the little statue turns into a big terror.  And if you’re thinking “how can a little statue become dangerous?”, just check out this tale of three tales and see.  Remember – Aye, yayeyayeyaye!!!

Just a note – I couldn’t find any trailers to include with the post.  I guess being a TV Movie, they didn’t really make trailers for them.  And the clips on YouTube gave too much away.  I’ll just leave you with a pic from when Karen Black’s Character first picks up the doll.  Make sure you watch the first one, and not the sequels, they aren’t that great.  Have a fun time watching this Scream-A-Day.  Stay tuned for more.

This movie TERRIFIED me as a kid. She can’t kill it in the oven. She can’t drown it….man, this and a flick called “Burnt Offerings” scared the hell out of me back in the day.

I remember talking about it in school with my friends. The ending shot was no joke. I vaguely remember Burnt Offerings. I have to go back and watch that one.

Aye, yayeyayey…yeah…I remember this movie—creeeeeepy! I think I checked under the bed for weeks after that– I was scarred by that little spear stabbing her ankles– but the creepiest thing was that mouth full of razor sharp teeth. A few other 70′s creepfests that gave me chills as a kid: “Crow Haven Farm” with Hope Lang and “Blood On Satan’s Claw” from Hammer studios.

It was a *made for TV* movie– probably somethng one of the major networks showed on a Friday night. It was part of that string of 70′s MFTV movies that were obssessed with Satanism and witches. I can’t recall all the names but I think Ernest Borgnine was in one called “The Devil’s Rain”…and there was one with Robert Foxworth– he seduced a young woman into marrying him and as she heads toward the altar his eyes are flaming and…dun, dun, dun…he’s the devil’s son and she can’t get out of it…lol! I spent alot of time at home in the 70′s….
