Scream-A-Day No.12 – THE EVIL DEAD (1981)

Sure the Dead can be Evil, but they aren’t usually as evil as they are in THE EVIL DEAD.  This Scream-A-Day No.12 tells the story of Ash and his friend who decide to take a trip to a cabin in the woods.  But instead of being able to enjoy a wonderful vacation, they are attacked by the undead, brought about by a mysterious Book of the Dead.  Friends start getting killed, and Ash must do what he can do to stop the dead from killing him and those that are left.

Writer / director Sam Raimi gets mad props for bringing something new and different to the horror genre back in 1981.  It’s a film that’s fun to watch, because it’s scary and a little on the silly side at the same time.  Plus, it put Bruce Campbell on the map so many years ago.  The movie also starred Ellen Sandweid and Richard DeManincor.

if you haven’t seen THE EVIL DEAD, then prepare yourself for an early 80s horror movie that races through the scary like a run away Terror Train down Skull Mountain.  This wasn’t the Spiderman 3 Sam Raimi, this was just starting to direct Sam Raimi.  Catch this film, or go back and watch it again for old times sake for this horror month of October.  And make sure you watch the two sequels as well.
