After our look back at the Movies and TV shows created from Stephen King stories on GEEK SOUL BROTHER LIVE!, how could I not get through the week without featuring one of Kings most disturbing tales brought to film – PET SEMATARY. If nothing else, this Scream-A-Day teaches you to let the dead stay dead, so the living can stay living.
Dale Midkiff plays a family man – Louis Creed – with a wife and two kids. They even have a cat! But when Mr. Sprinkles gets killed, the Creed’s neighbor, Jud Crandall played by Fred Gwynne, tells Louis about a ‘special’ pet cemetery. When Jud and Louis bury the dead cat, later that night the cat is starring Louis in the face. The only thing is, Mr. Sprinkles has a new disposition – it hates everything.
But if it wasn’t enough to have a mean resurrected cat on your hands, tragedy strikes the Creeds, and Louis it tempted to use the cemetery again.
The creep factor of this film is pretty high. Kids in horror movies are always the best formula. PET SEMATARY is one of those King movies that delivers just what you would expect from the Horror Master. He wrote the screenplay, and Mary Lambert directed the film. It also starred Denise Crosby, Blaze Berdahl and Miko Hughes as the rest of the Creed family.
If you missed this one growing up, but you admire King’s work, you might want to go back and watch it. Treat yourself to some classic scary this October.
