Beatfik is the brainchild of Shakatak’s drummer Roger O’Dell and ‘The Long Drive Home’ is the band’s first album in nearly 20 years. It is a mix of Shakatak like vocal tunes and jazzier instrumentals. The album works best on the instrumentals such as ‘Island Hoppin’, the lilting ‘Cruise Control’ and the upbeat ‘Danza Del Diablos’. Of the vocal tunes. the dancers ‘The Slaves To The Beat’ and ‘Celebrate are the strongest.
