Veteran Smooth Jazz trumpeter Rick Braun delivers another strong set of mildly funky tunes. His playing is highly melodic, warm and soulful. ‘Crossroads’, ‘Around The Corner’ and ‘Brazz Street’, the three opening cuts, perfectly highlight this approach that has been Braun’s trademark sound. ‘Bahia’ adds a light Brazilian touch. The tempo slows for the lovely romanticism of ‘The Moment I Saw You’ and gets funkiest on a strong take of Stevie’s ‘I Wish’. This excellent album is remarkably consistent and will be a contender for Smooth Jazz album of the year. Absolutely essential for lovers of the genre.
