Ezra Collective keyboard wizard Joe Armon-Jones impressed with his debut last year, and returns with another album of hypnotic atmospheric Cosmic Jazz ‘Turn to Clear View’. The album features a stellar cast of UK Jazz musicians including Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, James Mollison plus some vocalists including Georgia Anne Muldrow. On the sleeve it states the album is an hour long and is best enjoyed from start to finish, and having listened to it I agree, this has definitely been made as a full album rather than a collection of eight individual tracks. ‘Try Walk with me’ ft Asheber on vocals is a down tempo song that eases you into the album. ‘Yellow Dandelion’ ft Georgia is slightly more upbeat with great Horns backing. The instrumentals ‘Gnawa Sweet’, ‘Icy Roads (stacked)’ , ‘You Didn’t Care’ (ft Nubya) and the move groove oriented ‘Know where you’re coming from’ give Joe and the band the space to improvise and show their quality as musicians. Really good album that gets better with each play.
