Carmen Lundy returns with yet another Quality Vocal Jazz album of excellent original material. Carmen really is at the top of her game on ‘Modern Ancestors’ backed by excellent musicianship including her brother Curtis Lundy on bass, Carmen’s superb expressive voice tells stories of the life struggles and love. The beautiful mid paced ‘A time for Peace’ is very timely for 2019 although she has had the song in her head for decades. The gospel influenced ‘Burden Down Burden Down’ has a catchy beat and features some great Jazz Guitar. ‘Ola De Calor’ has a mellow Afro-Cuban feel. The melodic ‘Jazz on TV’ is an ironic statement about the lack of Jazz on TV’. ‘Eye of the Storm’ starts gently then builds to a crescendo. ‘Affair Brazil’ is a mellow Samba with has Carnival feel. There are some excellent ballads as well.Beautiful music from one of the most unique and very best Female Jazz vocalists and songwriters of our time.
