After the soaring success of his crossover single ‘This Is What Love Looks Like’ (included here) Carlton Jumel Smith drops his full length set in the form of 1634 Lexington Ave. Right from the off the vibe is set firmly in the early 70s – the summery, flowing ‘Woman You Made Me’ is pure vintage class and the entire 10 track offering is full of timeless soul gems. The rapid fire ‘We’re All We Got’ is a primed for northern soul dancefloors but the ballads excel too: check the lilting bat ballad ‘Ain’t That Love’ or the deep of ‘I Can’t Love You Anymore’. The crossover gem ‘I’d Better’ is another highlight though this is an expertly crafted, genuine vintage winner. Utterly brilliant.
