Peckham’s finest Ruby Rushton have excited us with three really good albums. Now with ‘Ironside’ they have made their sophomore album a beautiful Jazz record displaying great musicianship and a high level of sophistication. There are groove driven tracks like ‘One Monday Dram’, ‘The Target’ , ‘Triceratops’ and ‘Eleven Grapes’. Modal Jazz ‘Where are you now?’ and the Flute led ‘Return of the Hero’. ‘Laras theme’ has shades of an updated ‘So what’ whilst the poignant ‘Prayer for Grenfell’ and ‘Pingwin’ broaden the appeal. Great album that shows we really are experiencing the golden age of British Jazz.
