‘Doing It To Death sees James Brown and his backing band the JB’s at their funkiest best. It includes the driving title tune, and the quizzical but totally funky ‘You Can Have Watergate, Just Give Me Some Bucks And I’ll Be Straight’. ‘More Peas’ is another slice of the Funk, whilst ‘Sucker’ proves the JB’s got into a sublime Jazz groove when desired. JB, Fred Wesley and Maceo are all on top form.
