Pharoah Sanders recorded his ‘Pharoah’ album in 1977 on the India Navigation label when he was in between contracts between the Impulse and Arista labels. It has become the rarest and most sought after of his albums, with original mint copies selling for up to £1000.
It has a very intimate arrangement and Pharoah is more controlled in his playing than on his earlier Impulse albums. It comprises two 20 minute tracks : ‘Harvest Time’ is a beautiful spiritual track with a nice melody, and ‘Love Will Find a Way’ is more upbeat but still has a mellow vine and features great percussion from Lawrence Killian. This first legitimate reissue is presented with a second disc containing two previously unreleased 1977 live performances of ‘Harvest Time’ with an in depth booklet in a box. Essential for any Pharoah fan.
