Bobby Story was the pseudonym of Texan Bobby Patterson and this rare, in demand 1982 released private press album sees a welcome reissue. The tracks were actually recorded between ’76-’77 but stayed in the can ’til Bobby let them free in the early 80s. The light disco ‘Brick Layer’ opens proceedings but the real gems are the slower, narrative cuts like the bittersweet ‘Right Place/Wrong Time’ and southern gem ‘I Fell Asleep (One Time Too Many). The killer cuts also come in the form of the bubbling modern/crossover gem ‘If Every Man Had A Woman Like You’ and the popping ‘Lets Do Something Different’. He lives up to his Storyteller moniker on cuts like the bright dancer ‘I Got A Suspicion’ and the slower ballad ‘I’ll take Care Of You’. This is one of those rare albums where every track engages, perfectly balancing slower numbers with uptempo cuts. Brilliant. Don’t miss this. Limited to 500 black vinyl copies worldwide!
