Grant Green was the new kid on the block and a rising star of the Jazz guitar when ‘The Latin Bit’ was recorded on April 26th 1961. Green’s approach to his instrument is economical and uncomplicated but the fluidity and soulfulness of his playing is there for all to appreciate. This style adapts to ‘The Latin Bit’ with consummate ease. ‘Mambo Inn’ is a Latin Jazz classic. The delights of the Latin side of things shines brightly on the joyful ‘Brazil’. Grant Green’s lead off on ‘Tico Tico’ is lovely. The rhythm section includes the legendary Willie Bobo on drums and Carlos ‘Potato’ Valdes on conga. ‘The Latin Bit’ is one of Latin Jazz most accomplished and most accessible recordings.
