Mister Magic might just be the most influential Jazz Funk album ever (or possibly Grover’s ‘Winelight’). From the staccato almost ska like guitar riff of the title song to the deeply soulful ‘Black Frost’ and the modal ‘Earth Tones’ this album strikes a chord with those that heard it in 1975 and continues to do so to this day. Grover’s playing cuts the mustard and mixes Jazz improvisation with a soulfulness that goes straight to the heart. This album influenced many of today’s sax players and remains a funky testament to the greatest saxman of the Fusion era.
