Herbie and the Headhunters are at their peak on this incredibly funky jazz album from 1974.
Herbie’s keyboard playing is fantastic; Paul Jackson’s bass lines are really innovative whilst Mike Clark holds the rhythm together. This album was a major Jazz, R&B and Pop chart hit at the time. ‘Palm Grease’, ‘Actual Proof, and ‘Spank-A-Lee’ are as funky as it gets with real improvisation from all players on the top.
‘Butterfly’ is a beautiful mid tempo with a haunting melody, an absolute classic on which Bill Summers percussion and Bennie Maupin’s sax are to the fore. Another ‘must have’ album.
