James Brown’s long term backing singer and former Jewel, Martha High has recorded the second album of her 45 year career. ‘Soul Overdue’ features her searing vocals superbly backed by the top UK funk band Speedometer. The super funky ‘No More Heartaches’ , ‘No Man Worries’, ‘You Got It’ and ‘Never Never Love A Married Man’ really kick and are a real throwback to her days with JB. Martha makes good versions of ‘Sunny’, ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and Aretha’s ‘Save Me’, but the albums killer is the outstanding cover of Marvin’s ‘Trouble Man’. Really strong album.
