This CD includes all the 23 recordings that Bettye Swann made for Atlantic records between 1969 and 1976 including many unissued sides. The Philly dancers ‘Kiss my Love Goodbye’ and ‘When the game is played on you’ and funkier ‘Boy Next Door’ were written by Phil Hurtt and Thom Bell and recorded at Sigma. Many of the other tracks were recorded in Muscle Shoals and have that classic Southern soul sound. The ballads ‘Victim of a foolish heart’ ‘ A Cold day in hell’, ‘I’d rather go blind’ and the unissued Banks and Hampton side ‘Either you love me or leave me’ are classic. The duets with Sam Dees ‘Storybook children ‘ and the mid tempo dancer ‘Just as sure’ and the beautiful unissued ‘I want Sunday back again are also highlights. Great CD

Dr Bob Jones –
I’ve only one complaint, why hasn’t the credit for ‘Just As Sure’ been credited to Bettye Swann & Sam Dees? Otherwise this is one hellova soulful journey from one of the best female voices in Soul Music – word!
