Legendary WAG Club DJ Paul Murphy was an influential figure in early 80s club circles and some 30 years after his first ‘Jazz Club’ compilations hit the streets, Ace have brought him back to delve through the Prestige and Riverside catalogues to cull another selection of 50s and 60s hard bop and bossa-influenced soul jazz. Kenny Burrell’s “Grease Monkey”, Johnny Lytle’s Latin swinger “Pedro Stroller”, Art Farmer’s “Mau Mau”, Billy Taylor’s “Mambo Inn” and Willie Rodriguez’s “Flatjacks” are highlights.
