Interesting Project featuring three great Jazz Vocalists, Gregory Porter, Lonnie Liston’s brother Donald Smith and Mansur Scott aided by Paul Zanner’s Blue Brass Band. Porter takes lead on a good swinging version of BobbyTimmons classic ‘Moanin’ plus a couple of ballads. Smith sings and plays Rhodes on a unique bigger band version of the Jazz funk classic ‘Expansions’ that really works, and an interesting cover of Herbie’s ‘Watermelon Man’. Mansur handles ‘Song for my father’ and ‘Doing hard time’ in his own style. The three of them combine for Horace Silver’s still very relevant ‘Peace’. Good Vocal Jazz album.
