Sadaka ‘Premonition’ is a nice underground Spiritual Jazz and Soul album made by Saxophonist and Keyboard maestro Umlah Sadau-Holt in Oakland from 1982. It has been a very rare collectors piece for many years, and comprisies of seven original compositions. ‘You Are my Sunshine’ is a lovely mid tempo floating Soul groove track featuring the vocals of Debravon Lewis. ‘Black Encounters’ is a jaunty instrumental featuring a fine trumpet solo by Rasul Siddik. Diane Witherspoon’s ethereal vocals grace the lovely Spiritual Soul ‘Children of the Universe’. Marti Martin sings on the superb ‘African Violet’ another highlight track, which has a very African feel with great percussion and Marimba’s. ‘Nights in Satin’and the 12 minute driving groove‘Premonition’ are two Spiritual Jazz workouts . The last three tracks are reminiscent of the fabulous recordings on the L.A. Nimbus label of the same period. Excellent album illustrating how good and uplifting independent Jazz albums were in the Eighties , at a time when much of the output of major labels had become very formulated
