Released simultaneously with ‘Red’, ‘Blue’ features Nelson Rangell on flute. It is also a much more Jazz orientated album. ‘Little Face’ and ‘Dizzy’ kick the set off in fine groove based style. Versions of ‘Pavane’ and a Latin take of ‘Free As A Bird’ are excellent interpretations. ‘The Magician’ and ‘Ao mar’ are also fine flute led instrumentals. Overall a very fine album, Rangell, if anything, is more engaging on flute than sax.

Nice to hear a flute played so competently in this context – although I prefer the flute and alto flute to the piccolo which can sound a bit like a whistle.
