Multi Grammy award winner keyboard player Shaun Martin (Snarky Puppy, Kirk Franklin) makes his debut solo album. It has been 7 years in the making, hence the title 7 Summers, but it has worth the effort as Shaun has made an album of real substance which covers a broad range of Jazz styles. ‘One Big Party’ has a New Orleans feel good factor to it, his piano playing has a real swing. ‘Lotus’ has a driving rhythm and great keyboards and trumpet and is a highlight. ‘Torrent’ and the heavier and more dramatic ‘Madiba’ are also strong tracks, the later builds to a crescendo of rhythms and horns. There are also four vocal tracks. ‘All in a days work’ ft Geno Young has a strong neo-soul shuffling groove, ‘Have a chance at love’ ft Nikki Ross, ‘Love Don’t let me down’ ft Claudia Melton, and ‘Long Gone’ are quality mid tempo songs. Overall a very strong and varied album.
