From 1980 Outubro (October) is the Brazilian Trio Azymuth’s follow up to their lauded ‘Light As A Feather’ and is a fusion of hard Jazz samba, funk rock and psych electronica. The pacey ‘Papasong’ borrows from their monster ‘Jazz Carnival’ from the aforementiod ‘…Feather’ set, ‘Dear Limnertz’ is a strutting, mellow groove jazz funker while the spacey title track shimmers and glows with an airy ease proving that there’s more to the Azymuth sound than frantic dancefloor burners. ‘Maracana’ is pulled along by Alex Maleheiros’ swaggering bass while ‘A Friend’ brings an acoustic element in that works well with the keyboards and percussion. Good album.
