Stellar UK band Resolution 88 are back with a bang and deliver a superb set of Hancock/Head Hunters inspired Fender Rhodes fuelled Jazz funkers that will delight both dancers and listeners alike. Sounding fresh out of the late 70s the effortless playing and tight grooves are both accomplished and ageless. ‘Takin Off’ heralds the start of the journey with percussion, sax, keys and bass all taking turns to solo, while ‘Three Four Or More’ cooks with some spacey passages ala Dexter Wansel, ‘Raois Do Sol’ fuses a Latin feel with broken beat vibes, the NY fusion of ‘Homing In’ has some wonderful spiralling sax lines while the two part title track ‘Afterglow’ sees the band kick back on a mid tempo sonic odyssey and really tops a magnificent album. Faultless return, every track is a winner.
