This Ray Barretto Boogaloo album from 1968 is ONE of the classic Latin Jazz LPs, period. ‘El Nuevo Barretto’ hits that Boogaloo groove with aplomb, which continues ‘Mercy Mercy Baby’ and ‘Acid’. The R&B element adds to the mix on ‘A Deeper Shade Of Soul’. Check too the seductive dancer ‘Sola Te Dejare’ and the 8 minute ‘Espiritu Libre’ is a blistering Latin Jazz workout. For lovers of Latin Jazz, ‘Acid’ is a must, ‘essential’, even ‘legendary’ hardly does it justice.
