Extensive 34 track survey of Norman Connor’s Buddah/Arista output, there are so many gems here from the genius who straddled jazz fusion, soul, R&B and disco. ‘Maiden Voyage’ is pure, laid back, fusion while at the other end the classic ‘Once I’ve Been There’ is an instant classic: soulful disco blended with razor sharp horns, orchestration and a boogie bass that add up to a dancefloor smash. The funky b-line and soaring soul vocals of ‘Stella’, the pacey disco of ‘Take It To The Limit’, the high energy Jazz Funk of ‘Mr C’ and the gorgeous cover of Rene Geyer’s ‘Be There In The Morning’ are huge tracks, while the monster ‘Phoenix’ shows his work with Aquarian Dream. So much to discover here.
