‘Prototype’ sustains the high standard of Jeff Lorber’s recent releases. It is fusion, Lorber style with funky tunes like ‘Hyperdrive’ and ‘Vienna’ harking back to his Inner City/ early Arista days. ‘Hidden Agenda’ is a riff laden affair, whilst ‘Gucci’ returns to the funkier side of Jazz grooves. The jaunty ‘Park West’ is a finger-popping catchy tune, but there are no bad tracks and ‘Prototype’ is a solid 10 track CD. Lorber is on point throughout. Guests include Fourplay’s Chuck Loeb and Nathan East, sax man Andy Snitzer and the Yellowjackets Jimmy Haslip on bass. Quality modern day Jazz Funk/ Smooth Jazz.
