Fourth album from far reaching Canadian Hip-Hop instrumentalists Badbadnotgood, ‘IV’ sees them stepping outside the Hip-Hop boundaries and bringing in a more varied slant to their sound. The languid soul burner ‘Time Moves Slow’ feat Sam Herring is a strong highlight, the jazzy, free jam ‘Confessions Part II’ features the roaring sax of Colin Stetson while the title track ‘IV’ is a multi-paced Jazz dancer – rapid breaks giving way to a mellow middle before the tempo kicks in again – while the busy, swirling rhythms of ‘Hyssop Of Love’ is a good, Jazzy, spacey number featuring the rap of Mick Jenkins. Charlotte Day Wilson guests on the lovely, chilled bittersweet ‘In Your Eyes’ while ‘Cashmere’ is a lovely, throwback post bop number.
