‘First Impressions’ remains one of the finest releases on Strata East. Recorded in 1974, this masterpiece of Spiritual Jazz is an absolute gem. The title track, with its heavy, funky and hypnotic bass line is the standout. ‘Umoja Suite’ is in a not dissimilar vein, whilst ‘Meterologicly Tuned’ is more out there, whilst the gentle undulating ‘Watch What Happens Now’ floats beautifully. Essential vinyl reissue. Not on CD at present, but ‘First Impressions’ is featured on Soul Brother’s own ‘Fusion With Attitude’, of which we have a few copies left for now at least.
