Seminal album from Earth, Wind & Fire, this 1977 release from Maurice White’s expansive group was inspired by White’s month long visit to Argentina and Brazil. The Latin influences are there,c ertainly in the percussive, low slung funker ‘Serpentine Fire’, the pacey, jazz fuelled ‘Runnin’ and the all-too-bried ‘Brazilian Rhyme’. The soulful disco of ‘Fantasy’ would become a massive worldwide hit for them, ‘Lover’s Holiday’ is a superb stepper while the thumping ‘Jupiter’ is classic EWF – brassy, punchy and a melting pot of jazz and funk. The ballad ‘Be Ever Wonderful’ and the clubby funker ‘Magic Mind’ are also highlights.
