Bad Education – Vol 1: Soul Hits Of Timmion
£13.99
Format: CD
This 10 track (9 track vinyl version) collection brings together some of the best tracks from Finnish ground breakers Timmion who mark over 15 years in the business with this team-up with Daptone. Carlton Jumel Smith’s huge crossover smash ‘This is What Love Looks’ like kicks things off and the blend here mixes label stalwarts with one off acts that left just a solitary mark on the imprint’s extensive catalogue. The thumping ‘Paint Me In A Corner’ from Nicole Willis is cut from a classic Northern Soul template, The Soul Investigators feature again on Ernie Hawks’ psych-tinged ‘Scorpio Walk’, and yet again on the title track, ‘Bad Education’, from Bardo Martinez that delivers an authentic slab of NYC latino-soul. Wanda Felicia’s lilting ‘Until You’re Mine’ quivers with a fragile delicacy, Willie West’s gentle blues number ‘I’m Still A Man’ comes fifty years after his very first recording while the soul-drenched ‘Lost, Lost, Lost’ by Moody & McClain is pure cavernous soul balladry at its best.
