The BBE Japanese Jazz series of comps and releases are excellent introductions into the vibrant music scene of that country. Volume 2 kicks off with the sublime ‘Dragon Dance’ by Makoto Terashita and Harold Land. There are so many cracking tracks that it is impossible to mention them all, but check Mabumi Yamaguchi’s urgent ‘Distant Thunder’, Hideto Sasaki’s ‘Stop Over’ and George Kawaguchi Big Four’s ‘Vietnam’. 15 tracks on the double CD, 7 on the triple vinyl. Essential.
