13 tracks recorded between 1970 and 1973 that showcases Bob Shand’s Mainstream label’s superb blend of Funk, Soul and Jazz. All tracks remastered from the original tapes, most of them released on vinyl for the first time since their original release. Saundra Phillip’s ‘Miss Fatback’ is a punchy funk classic, Almeta Lattimore’s ‘These Memories’ is rightly regarded as a crossover classic while Afrique’s ‘Kissing My Love’ is just one of many tracks from this imprint that was sampled. Blue Mitchell’s funk jazz ‘Blue’s Blues’ is a highlight, Maxine Weldon covers ‘Make It With You’ on a lazy, summery crossover number while Dave Hubbard’s Latin-esq ‘T.B’s Delight’ develops in intensity as it goes on. Check Sarah Vaughan’s waltz-time big band jazzer ‘Just A Little Lovin’ and Pete Yellin’s expansive 12-minute epic ‘Bird And The Oija Board’ for an illustration of the diversity of the label’s output.
