GRIMM ‘The Kiss’ – But Is Nick The One Doing The Kissing?

Unofficial Part 2 of the whole ‘Sabertooth Assasin’ story was full of excitement as Nick and His mom got into the fray with the Mauvais Dentes.  Juliette is still knocked out by the curse that Adalind gave her through a cat scratch.  And Captain Renard has family issues as loving brother Eric (James Frain) tells him he better keep his nose out of the ‘Family Business’.  And Hank is starting to come to terms with the strange things he’s seen, even though he’s still shaken by these as yet unexplainable things.

GRIMM SPOILERS

The two major story plots in this and the last episode ‘Bad Teeth’ were ‘Why was Nick’s Mom back?’ and even more of a mystery – ‘What does Captain Renard want with Nick?’  The first one was answered quickly with Kelly Burkhardt telling her son Nick that she had heard the coins surfaced again and she came back to look for them.  If you’ve been watching the show then you remember the three coins that Nick obtained that could turn people into world leaders.

The other question of what Renard wants with Nick is still somewhat of a mystery.  But, whatever it is, it goes directly against the family’s wishes and Renard’s brother Eric.  We got a good look at Eric’s personality in the previous episode when he told his guys to ‘keep the torturing down because he was on the phone.’

And talking about Renard, he confronts Adalind’s mamma to find out how to pull Juliette out of the curse.  She gives him some nasty stuff that he’s supposed to drink that will help him out with his ‘pure heart’.  I won’t spoil that plot for you.

Hank sort of confronts Nick, after Nick is asked questions about the two dead FBI agents from the end of the first episode.  Hank says that he knows Nick might know about all the weird stuff he’s been seeing, and may have something to do with the guy they found with the 2 slain agents, but he’s gonna trust him.  ”Just don’t keep me out” Hank tells Nick.  It’s either going to come down to Nick telling Hank, or something real bad is going to happen to him. But that’s just my thoughts.

Monroe is starting to show his affection for Rosalee in a protective way.

Nick’s mom confronts Hexenbiest mom Catherine about messing with Nick and his fiancée.  That didn’t go so well.

Finally, Nick’s mother Kelly says her goodbyes to Nick as he gives her the coins, but after Nick leaves, she steals a car and go to who knows where.  Nick is called to the hospital because Juliette is suddenly awake, but she’s having a little bit of memory loss, Nick memory loss.

MY THOUGHTS

These two opening episodes of the season are setting up some great story lines for the show.  The worlds are getting bigger and new characters are being introduced and making new plots.  It’s not all about the ‘monster of the week’ anymore.  I just wish David Giuntoli would emote a little more.  That default blank stare he has just spells DULL to me.  Hopefully he gets to show the characters highs and lows as the season continues.  Russell Hornsby on the other hand had been given some character situations that have audiences feeling for him a little more.  If he does get to be in the inner circle, maybe he’ll help to drive the direction of the show also, in the way that Monroe helps.

And the other thing that I hope to see is fairy tales from other cultures come into play.  It would be kind of cool to see Nick add more supernatural characters into the book.  And talking about books, NBC has an eBook download with content from the show on their site HERE.

Let me hear your comments on what you thought about season two so far.  Or tell me if you still have to catch up to season one.

I really liked this episode of Grimm, especially compared to season 1. I stopped watching last season about halfway through before a coworker at Dish told me I needed to catch up. I did end up watching the rest of the season before this one started, thankfully, because this season has been incredible so far. I started out watching both episodes so far on my Hopper’s PrimeTime Anytime feature with the Auto Hop enabled to skip commercials just in case it was hard to sit through the whole thing, but now I’ll only use it to skip the commercials to get back to the action. I can’t wait for the next episode; I get the feeling it’s going to be an incredible sophomore season for Grimm!

I also missed a couple episodes last season, but I was hooked in. You’re right, the second half of season 1 was worth watching, especially going into season 2 like they have. I’m glad to see fantasy on NBC is taking off again. Thanks for your feedback Carter.
