Geek Soul Brother Live: Ep.32 – ANIME CLASSICS

Hey there brothers and sisters of geekdom. Here is a brand new episode of GEEK SOUL BROTHER LIVE! just waiting for you to listen to.  In this episode we went back to our early accounts of watching Anime for the first time. What was it about this unique and different form of animation that captured our imaginations back in the day.  And you have to remember that Geek Soul Brother is slightly older than the rest of the crew, so I actually saw many of the early feature anime films on VHS back in the late 80s and early 90s.  The Private, MDawg, Toby-Wan and I brought up classics like GHOST IN THE SHELL, AKIRA, VAMPIRE HUNTER D, WICKED CITY and many more. And we discussed TV shows like ROBOTECH and STAR BLAZERS.  My first anime film I ever watched was FIST OF THE NORTH STAR, when my brother visited and popped it in the VCR.  I was hooked from then on.  We also talked about how the genre has changed over the years, what we suggest people watch if they are new to anime, and what we thought of Hentai (yes, we all remember OVERFIEND).  MDawg even talked about the anime that made him cry.

Sit back and listen, you won’t hear any Japanese subtitles.  What was the first Anime feature you remember seeing.

Here are some of the news items we talked about also:

Neil Armstrong passed away at 82.

Ben Affleck won’t be directing The Justice League Movie

The Canadian show CONTINUUM gets a second season.

ABC greenlights a show about S.H.I.E.L.D. from THE AVENGERS, Wheadon possibly directing.

Lance Reddick in a new Scifi Webseries this coming Thursday called Dr0ne.
