(SPOILERS PEOPLE) The Season 4 finale of FRINGE was crazy. I know Walter’s been getting gansta with his willing to sacrifice his loved ones to save the world. Letting Peter get into ‘the Machine’ last time was a big step for him. But shooting Dunham in the head, hoping that the cortexiphan was going to heal her was on a whole new level. And how about the way Walter saved Olivia with some MacGyver stuff, a letter opener and a metal antenna! He’s got to be one of the greatest scientist in Sci-fi.
Following the finale, TV Guide did an interview with FRINGE Executive Producers J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner, where they asked the gentlemen what they had in store for the 5th and final season. They talked about Olivia still possibly having to die, even though she technically died already, and who might be the one to do it. Wyman and Pinkner also gave us a clue as to how important 2036 will be in the final season. Here is an excerpt:
Wyman: Well, let’s say that basically 2036 is extremely important to Season 5. It’s crucial, but having said that, everything that you have seen in Fringe from Season 1 all the way to 4 is really, really, really, really important to what’s going on in Season 5, and 2036 is part of that. It’s a 13-episode sprint; there’s no filler episodes. It answers some very bold questions. It culminates with a very satisfying type of crescendo that really is so important for the fans, that’s the biggest thing. That’s the only thing that’s really important is to make sure that they feel absolutely satiated.
September is shot. Olivia is pregnant, and we’ve already seen what happens to their child. The observers are definitely coming. I think the FRINGE cast and crew are going to make good on their promise that this is going to be an incredible story that ends in an incredible climax. So few shows, especially science fiction and fantasy shows, get to plan out their closing in this way. I can’t wait.
